Stuart  had a -4 under par 66 third round, to post -10 under par at  the top of the leaderboard, and will take a one shot lead into the final round of the Hong Kong Open as the Qualifying School graduate chases his first European Tour title. He said winning would be great, and is fired up to take his first title;

“I wanted to be last group so I’m delighted, I’ve led quite a few times on the Challenge Tour so hopefully that will put me in good stead for tomorrow. There will be a few nerves early on I think but I’m swinging so well that if I can be committed to the golf shot I’ll be fine and just enjoy it. Pretty much from the first hole onwards, every iron shot was right down the pin. If it had been a good day on the greens it could have been a really low round, so it was disappointing not to capitalize, but I feel very confident the way I’m playing and I’m really excited about tomorrow. Winning would mean the world really. Obviously there is a lot of golf to go and I’ve just got to enjoy tomorrow and see what happens. To be a winner on The European Tour would be great.”

Tied in second place are Shiv Kapur and Wade Ormsby, both at -9 under par after they both produced third round totals of -4 under par 66.

Wade feels comfortable as he also tries to win his first Tour title;

“My game feels good, made a lot of birdies out there and overall pretty happy.”

Shiv says his recent wins on the Challenge Tour will stand him in good stead;

“If you can keep the mistakes off the card round here you’ll usually challenge and I’ve been able to do that. Whether it’s the Challenge Tour or the main Tour winning is always hard. For me winning recently in the last couple of months has been good and I know what to expect tomorrow. Sometimes you can make a couple of mistakes and still win a tournament and I think that’s been the biggest realisation for me in the last couple of months.”

The defending champion Miguel Angel Jiménez, José Manuel Lara and Steve Webster all shot rounds of -5 under par 65 to total  -8 under par, just two shots off the lead. This course is a favorite of  Miguel’s and he really wants to defend his title here;

 “I hope I can keep hitting the ball the way I’m hitting it and knock in some putts to get the victory here, I would love it. I love this golf course.”

There is still a lot of golf to be played here, the man with the strongest will has an advantage.

Alexander has a one shot lead going into the final round of the Ballantine’s Championship after a hectic third day, where some players had to  make up for lost time after delays on Thursday and Friday, half the field had to complete their second rounds early this morning. Eventually, Kiradech Aphibarnrat and José Manuel Lara got up to join Wade Ormsby and Arnond Vongvanij at the top of the leaderboard at the completed halfway stage, all on -7  under par.

Alexander had a -3 under par third round, for a tournament total of -9 under par, which was good enough at the end of the day to keep him on top of the board. Alex said it had been a long tough day;

It was a nice way to finish, and it was a long, tough day, a lot of wind. My short game I think held it together, and I didn’t have that many chances but I took care of them when I got chances for birdies and made the important pars when I needed.  So it was a big fight day.  I’m just trying to play well tomorrow, and it’s going to be a really fun day.  I haven’t been in the lead in a long time, and I’ve had some good finishes, but it will be a lot of fun.  But I’m just trying to play good and make birdies and try to make more birdies than the other ones. It’s easier for a player to come back when you’ve done something good in the past, you know you can score well around the track and good memories are always nice to have with you.”

Spaniard Pablo Larrazábal and Scot Peter Whiteford are tied in second place at -8 under par. Pablo had the lowest round of the day at -4 under par 68.

Pablo said he had played beautifully, only missing one green in regulation;

” I hit the ball beautifully today, I’m very happy with the round and to be in the fight again. I only missed one green in regulation which was something special. It will be good to be in the final group again, it’s been a long time.”

Peter had to start the day early, and had to play 28 holes in a long day of golf;

I was on the 5 am bus, first bus in, last bus out it looks like. It’s been a long day but that’s the job every now and then. My form has been pretty average, poor to be honest. I was hitting it half decent on the range and just not taking anything to the golf course, but this week has been better.”

Two Aussies are tied in fourth position, Brett Rumford and Marcus Fraser finished at  -7 under par. Brett rounded off his third round in some style, carding five birdies in succession.  They both agreed that the influence of compatriot Adam Scott was the inspiration of their good play,  following Adam’s victory at Augusta National.

Brett summed it up;

” With Adam winning the Masters it has inspired us all. The last couple of days have been interesting. It’s been pretty frustrating but rewarding at the same time. Hopefully tomorrow I can just eliminate all the silly errors.”

European Tour Bans Caddie for hiding extra club in a bush.

Thought you should know this, cheating is not just restricted to the soccer field or rugby pitch, it has now surfaced at the wonderful game of golf, at the highest level, the European Tour.

Jose Manuel Lara was disqualified from the BMW International Open by the European Tour, after his Caddie was caught trying to hide an extra club he had accidentally put in Jose Manuel Lara’s bag at the beginning of the round. The caddie, Mathias Vinson, created a ruse on the second hole of the round to try and dispose of the 15th club, in a bush. Playing partners Damien McGrane and Peter Hedblom noticed Vinson going toward the bush and asked him what he was doing.

According to European Tour chief referee John Paramor, Vinson replied to the players;

” I’ve got this wrong. I’ve done something bad. I wish it hadn’t happened.”

Normally the penalty for having an extra club in the bag would have been assessed as a pair of two-shot penalties, one for each hole he had the extra club in the bag. But this was not a normal affair, John Paramor said:

“It was clearly the caddie doing what he felt at the time was the right thing, but was clearly the wrong thing. He’s kind of been asked not to come back and that’s how the matter has been resolved.”

What strikes me as funny is that the two playing partners saw what was happening, but Jose did not apparently. You don’t suppose the caddie told Jose of the error, and it was then Jose’s idea to get around the problem, knowing if the caddie did get caught he could absolve himself of all blame. I wonder if John Paramor will be keeping a close watch on Jose Manuel Lara, and I also wonder what corrective action would have been taken if it was proved that Jose instigated the dastardly course of action.
