The weather is still a problem, once again halting play in the Yokohama Tire LPGA Classic, with darkness causing the suspension of play in the third round. Austin Ernst was leading, after completing four holes, after everyone had finished play in their second rounds.
Austin had completed just four holes , carding one birdie, before darkness halted play in the third round of the Yokohama Tire LPGA Classic on the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail at Capitol Hill.
At -10 under par Austin leads second placed Yani Tseng by one shot. Yani has also played four holes, but recorded a bogey on the way.
Austin spoke about the frustration of waiting around;
“You know, we were sitting around, hanging around.”
“I’ve got two of my aunts are here, my mom’s here, and we’ve got a couple family friends so we were just kind of sitting around talking, basically just waiting to see what the deal would be.”
” I was glad we did get a few holes in, that way we should be able to finish tomorrow so that will be good.”
“It’s going to be a marathon, there’s a lot of golf left.”
“It will basically just be get as many birdies as I can. I know the scores are still going to be low. It’s just going to be more continuous golf than usual.”
“We’ll finish that third round up and then probably get a little lunch break and go right back out there.”
“It will be good, kind of be able to get into a little bit of a groove early hopefully and then just kind of carry that on throughout the day.”
Five ladies share third place, at -8 under par for the tournament, Sei Young Kim, Tiffany Joh, Sydnee Michaels, Julieta Granada and Lexi Thompson.
Third round play of the Yokohama Tire LPGA Classic will resume at 07:30 CST on Sunday morning, hopefully for the completion of the third round. The ladies will then be going off both the 1st and 10th tee’s for the final round which will begin at approximately 09:20 CST.
