Steeley eyed Brendan Steele still leads the Frys.com Open tournament after 54 holes at Silverado Country Club.
Brendan shot a third round -3 under par at the Frys.com Open, to give him a one shot lead going into the final round at -14 under par. He is fighting to go wire to wire and win the season opener here at Silverado Country Club.
Andrew Loupe shares second place with Kevin Na, both that one shot back at -13 under par. Andrew fired a third round -9 under par 63, and Kevin -8 under 64, which moved the pair of them well up the leaderboard and into contention.
Tied in the fourth position are eight players, Justin Rose, Jason Bohn, Kyle Reifers, Emiliano Grillo, Graham DeLaet, Harold Varner 111, Will Wilcox and Jhonattan Vegas, all at -12 under par.
In a bizarre incident today Emiliano nearly hit Rory McIlroy with his tee shot at the driveable 296 yard par four 17th. He thought he had been waved up to play;
“We thought they were waiting for us to do it.”
“I heard that I almost hit him, but I really apologize.”
“Yeah, that would have been bad. Good aim. He’s got a bright shirt. That’s why.”
Would have been a bad end to Rory’s already painful third round, he could only manage -1 under par 71, to get to -6 under par for the tournament, and now eight shots adrift of the leader, the putter is not working at all;
“Missed me by a couple of inches.”
“Would’ve put me out of my misery, to be honest with you.”
Just about anybody could still win this Frys.com Open tournament, low scores have been carded every day, so tomorrow is going to be a very interesting day, with players knowing they can not make even one mistake, but at the same time will have to be going for it, and taking risks.
