It is a mighty history making event in Morocco this week as for the first time the European Tour, Trophée Hassan II and the Ladies European Tour, Lalla Meryem Cup are being played at the same time as the Men tackled the Red Course, and the Women the Blue Course at Royal Golf Dar Es Salam.
On day 1 Francesco Laporta, Thomas Linard and Jason Scrivener topped the Trophée Hassan II leaderboard with rounds of -4 under par 68.
Jason was pleased with his opening effort;
“It was pretty tricky out there this morning, pretty wet and quite cold, so to shoot a 68 in those conditions was very pleasing.”
Second place was shared between five players all on -3 under par, Younes El Hassani, Estanislao Goya, Mike Lorenzo-Vera, Adrien Saddier and Borja Virto Astudillo.
Over on the Blue course Florentyna Parker is the clear leader in the Lalla Meryem Cup, shooting an opening round of -5 under par 67.
Florentyna accidentally broke the shaft in her driver during the Pro/Am on Wednesday, a new shaft arrived just in time for the first round;
“The tour van only had extra stiff shafts and I play regular.”
“I got someone else’s shaft but it wasn’t the right one and then this morning, luckily I had one sent from home.”
Three ladies are tied in second place at -4 under par, Liz Young, who is four months pregnant, was bogey free, Marianne Skarpnord and Oona Vartiainen
