Nuria Iturrios from Spain, wins the Lalla Meryem Cup, in Morocco, only her second start on the Ladies European Tour.
A blistering last round of -7 under par 65 gave Nuria Iturrios her maiden Tour victory, the Lalla Meryem Cup, on the Blue Course at Royal Golf Dar Es Salam. Torrential rain dampened the spirits of everyone else, well they do say that the rain in Spain falls mainly on the Plain, it certainly never bothered Nuria, her winning score of -11 under par was six shots clear of her nearest rival.
Nuria started her career with a tie for 24th at the ISPS HANDA New Zealand Women’s Open in February, and only qualified for the Ladies European Tour in Morocco a little over four months ago. She thought that staging of the Lalla Meryem Cup and Trophée Hassan II on the men’s European Tour was a great idea;
“This is the best day of my life and my best achievement after finishing fourth in Lalla Aicha Tour School.”
“I really enjoyed playing at the same venue my Spanish friends and colleagues on the European Tour. I had a lot of fun.”
Long time leader Florentyna Parker, slipped over in the rain, recording a final round +1 over par 73, with 17 pars and one bogey, claiming second place at -5 under par;
“I played quite nicely and I had to save a few of those pars.”
“I had a few chances so it wasn’t quite as boring as my scorecard suggests but then again the last was a bit of a shame.”
“It doesn’t change anything but I was going for 18 straight pars.”
“She played really well and she deserves to win. She played incredible.”
“It was raining from start to finish and was really hard out there so to shoot seven under is incredible. She won it and I was just hanging on basically to my pars.”
In third place was Angel Lin, a final round -2 under par 70, giving her a -4 under par total.
