Rory McIlroy moves ahead in the Dubai Duty Free Irish Open in a suspended 3rd round at The K Club in Ireland.
Yes it rained in Ireland, with the threat of thunder and lightning, but it did not bother Rory as he moved to the top of the Irish Open leaderboard, carding a third round -2 under par 70, completing just 15 holes in a stop start day, for a -9 under par total, before play was suspended;
“Today was a day to just hang in there and try not to make too many mistakes and that’s what I said I wanted to do today.”
“No bogeys in 15 holes, that was good. I feel like I left a few out there, but at the same time, I can’t complain with a three-shot lead going into tomorrow.”
“I feel like my game is good enough that I’ll keep giving myself chances, hit fairways, hit greens.”
“If I can knock a few in, hopefully that will be good enough to get the job done tomorrow.”
The competition is hosted by the McIlroy Foundation, and at the moment Rory will take a three shot lead into the final round tomorrow, if things stay the same once the third round is completed. He has long coveted a Home win, and this looks like his best chance to achieve that goal.
Danny Willett currently holds second place, at -6 under par, he has completed 15 holes at +2 over, to fall back, unless he can recover early tomorrow morning and make up some lost ground;
“It was a long day. It was tricky out there, stopping and starting. Hopefully we can get some good weather tomorrow and everyone can get done.”
“It’s tough to kind of get your mindset, sitting around in between, you get a bit tired and it’s obviously not the warmest place in the world.”
“There’s a good leaderboard shaping up, and if we can get it all finished then it’s all set up for a good Sunday.”
Russell Knox a completed -2 under par 70 third round, and Richard Sterne, -1 under through 15 holes, are tied in third position, at -5 under par.
