Sakura Yokomine, of Japan is the 1st round leader of the Fubon LPGA Taiwan Championship, being played at the Miramar Golf & Country Club in Taiwan.
Sakura carded an opening round -5 under par 67 which put her on top of the Fubon LPGA Taiwan Championship leaderboard, in Taipei.
Sakura spoke about the windy conditions and how she liked the course, especially the par five 12th which she Eagled;
“Yeah, I like it, wind is changing the conditions, but I concentrated and played good today.”
Paula Creamer, USA, is tied second place with a -4 under par bogey free 68, she told the media that she always plays well in tough conditions;
“I’ve always played really well when it’s windy and just kind of tough.”
“You have to think a lot out there. Colin and I worked really well as a team today.”
“I mean, it’s pretty windy in certain spots out on this golf course, and he did a good job of figuring that out for us.”
Amy Yang of South Korea, and Brooke Henderson, Canada, both share second place with Paula.
Brooke enjoyed a chip in birdie at the par four 15th;
“I kind of had a tough lie in the rough there on the left side of 15, and so I just kind of tried to hit it out to the right.”
“I was thinking in my head, try and get up and down and save par and then try and make some birdies on the last three holes.”
“I was able to chip that one in; birdie 16; had a good chance on 17; birdied 18. It was really the ideal ending.”
World number one and defending champion Lydia Ko battled back from a double-bogey on the 5th hole to card -2 under 70 and currently sits in a tie for 10th place, just three shots off the pace.
