Lucas had a third round -6 under par 65 to take the lead in the Shriners Hospitals for Children Open, with a -15 under par total, and will have a one shot advantage going into the final round tomorrow.
A 45 ft putt on the 8th hole set Lucas on his way;
“That eighth hole was kind of the catapult, I made that long one, and two great shots into 9 and turned in three under and kept it going.”
“I’ve really been working hard, and it’s starting to pay off, eighteen holes tomorrow, and see how many we can make because I’m going to have to make some.”
“We’ve got a shootout ahead of us tomorrow.”
“I like where I stand, but you’re going to have to play good tomorrow.”
Sharing second place is Rod Pampling, who led for the first two days, Rod carded an even par round 71 today, with nothing seeming to go his way, the ball grazing the edge of the hole on numerous occasions.
Along with Rod on -14 under par is Brooks Koepka, with a third round -1 under 70, a double bogey five at the par three 17th was a very expensive trip to the water.
Brooks admitted he played poorly, and putted poorly
“For as bad as we played today, I was kind of happy to be one off the lead.”
“Just kind of struggled with everything. I feel like speed was a bit off, putting never really got comfortable.”
“Not my best performance, but I guess one off the lead isn’t too bad for how bad we played.”
Tied in fourth place are Russell Henley, who had the low round of the day -8 under par 63 and Geoff Ogilvy, -5 under -5 under 66, both players have -13 under par totals.
