Defending Champion Anna Nordqvist leads the ShopRite LPGA Classic after the first round.
Anna, Sweden, opened this years ShopRite LPGA Classic with a first round -7 under par 64 to lead the tournament by one shot, despite not putting too well;
“I feel like I enjoy this place, but at the same time, I don’t feel like I have anything to prove here.”
“I am just trying to take it day by day. I’ve been playing good for a long time now, so just tying get everything to click at once.”
“I’ve been hitting it really well the last couple weeks. Just haven’t really been putting well since Phoenix.”
“But started to get a couple rolls going for me today.”
“Had a lot of opportunities and a lot of good putts that didn’t go in, too, but my wedge game was really good today and I putted a few short ones.”
Moriya Jutanugarn, Thailand, Jennifer Song, U.S.A. Jeong Eun Lee, and Jenny Shin from South Korea all share second place at -6 under par following opening rounds of 65.
The Womens World Number One position is set to change this week, no matter what happens this week in New Jersey, either Ariya Jutanugarn or So Yeon Ryu is projected to move to the top of the rankings.
The Lydia Ko camp are not playing here, for reasons best known to themselves. Just another confusing decision from them, not playing for three weeks leading up to a Major tournament.
Neither is second placed Ariya Jutanugarn, so that leaves So Yeon Ryu looking set to take over the top spot, with a win or even a good finish here, except that she has wilted under the pressure, carding a first round +3 over par 74.
So Ariya will take over the number slot, unless So Yeon has a miraculous recovery, which will be difficult in this three round competition.
