Bernhard shot a third round -6 under par 65 to lead The Senior Open Championship with a -5 under par total, and will take a four-stroke advantage into the final round tomorrow.

Bernhard said it was a good round, but not so good with the Broomstick putter;

“Definitely efficient, what happened really good today was my driving was really, really good.”

“Hit a lot of fairways. Hit the ball solid, which then gives you the opportunity to have shorter irons with distance control and I hit some really good irons to pin-high, pretty close.”

“Gave myself opportunities. The putter wasn’t brilliant but it wasn’t bad. So overall, a very, very solid round.”

“There’s a lot of guys waiting for me to fall apart or whatever. So I need to shoot a good round, hopefully under par, depending on the conditions.”

“If I can do that, then I make it difficult for the other guys to catch me.”

Corey Pavin, USA, is in second place at -1 under for the tournament, he also shot -6 under 65 today.

Corey enjoyed the easier conditions today;

“It was certainly an easier day to play golf. No doubt about that.”

“It was almost balmy out there. It was nice not to have to wear a sweater. The wind was down. It was definitely gettable today.”

Peter Lonard, from Australia, is third at even par, bogey free -4 under 67 today helping his cause.

Unless Bernhard wakes up tomorrow with a slipped disc, this tournament is in his pocket, it will be his  fifth Major win since turning 58, he is in good company,  six other players in PGA TOUR Champions history have at least five major wins at any age: Jack Nicklaus (8), Hale Irwin (7), Gary Player (6), Tom Watson (6), Arnold Palmer (5) and Miller Barber (5).
