Thidapa carded a first round -6 under par 65 to lead the Marathon Classic on day one by just one shot. She enjoyed making birdie on the last knowing the TV guys were looking at her, and she only needed 23 putts on her round;

“I just want to finish it good, and I see the TV guys here, and just like, oh, a little bit nervous. But, you know, go do it and make birdie.”

“After I make bogey, then I know that I have a birdie opportunity, so I just try it and try to keep it on the fairway, in play, and hit it on the green.”

“But most of them I made it. Like, oh, that’s good.”

Sharing second place at -5 under 66 are,  defending champion In-Kyung Kim, with In Gee Chun, Mirim Lee, all from South Korea, Yani Tseng, Taipei, Jacqui Concolino, and Katelyn Dambaugh from USA, and Caroline Hedwall, Sweden.

Yani has put her putting problems behind her;

“I never thought I would have this putting problem.”

“I’ve been through everything, but now I feel like I could write a book about the recipe to success.”

“I just want to stay patient, and one day I can still win a tournament.”

Brooke Henderson of Canada is in the group just two shots off the pace at -4 under, and she has forgotten all about the club breaking incident;

This year, I just tried to keep things really simple.”

“I tried to just look over the golf course with fresh eyes and try to forget everything that’s happened before and just try to play smart, try to give myself a lot of birdie opportunities.”
