The wonderful Dame Laura Davies of England won the inaugural U.S. Senior Women’s Open at Chicago Golf Club, by a whopping ten shots.
Dame Laura and the inaugural U.S. Senior Women’s Open trophy
Dame Laura, starting the day with a five stroke lead carded a bogey free -5 under par 68 final round to win the inaugural U.S. Women’s Open with a -16 under par total, a ten shot winning margin;
“It’s great, seeing this trophy paraded down for the very first time, and I get my name on it first.”
“You know, this championship will be played for many years, and there will only be one first winner. Obviously quite a proud moment for me to win that.”
“I hadn’t won for eight years, so the pressure you’re playing under when you’re trying to just do something for yourself, prove to yourself you can still win, makes this win rank highly up there.”
“And obviously because it’s a USGA event, it’s hard to compare tournaments, but this is very high on my list of achievements, I can assure you.”
Coming in second, those ten shots behind was Julie Inkster, USA, a final round of even par 73 for -6 under total was never going to get the job done.
Trish Johnson of England was then in third place at -4 under par, she too could only post a last round of even par 73 and -4 under tournament total.
Only four ladies finished the tournament in under par, so congratulations Dame Laura on a famous crushing victory.
