Kevin Tway, Jamie Lovemark, Vaughn Taylor and Sean O’Hair share top spot on the The Northern Trust leaderboard at Ridgewood Country Club at the start of the FedExCup Playoffs.
Kevin, Jamie, Vaughn and Sean all carded first rounds of -5 under par 66 to top The Northern Trust leaderboard by one shot.
Sean wants to play well as next week the second round, the BMW Championship is played at Aronimink Golf Club, where Sean is a member;
“I’m obviously very disappointed that I’m not in a better position, but I’m kind of in charge of my destiny.”
“If I play good golf I’m just going to work into the next week.”
“It’s not like, hey, I need to do this to play Aronimink.”
Kevin also has his eye on making it to next week;
“Morgan Hoffmann came in at 124 and went all the way to The TOUR Championship.”
“That’s kind of the plan, try to play as good as you can and go as far as you can.”
There is a whole posse of players on -4 under, 13 of them, notably World number one Dustin Johnson, so this is a really compacted leaderboard.
Tiger Woods is way back at T60, with even an even par round of 71;
“Just didn’t have the situations where I had the full club and I could go ahead and take a rip at it and start being aggressive and going after these flags.”
“I kept having to play a little defensive because I was taking more club, trying to shape it and take spin off. One of those days.”
Phil Mickelson is T18 at -3 under after his opening round of 68.
