Tiger and Rory shared top spot at the BMW Championship with opening rounds of -8 under par 62.
Tiger was happy with his best start for a long time;
“Got off to a better start than I have most of the season.”
“Just the way it goes.”
Rory could have done better, but a couple of bogey’s on the back halted his progress;
“It was one of those days where it was out there.”
“You don’t get many opportunities to break 60 and today was one of them.”
“And I didn’t capitalize.”
“I’m not going to say it stings too bad because I’d much rather shoot 62 today and win the golf tournament Sunday than shoot 59 today and maybe not win.”
One stroke back in third place with -7 under is Xander Schauffele the reigning Rookie of the Year is aiming for a win here for a place in Atlanta, and at the same time book himself a last minute pick for the Ryder Cup;
“It’s hard, you know, I think the stats are out whoever won the Tour Championship never made it back the next year.”
“There’s a reason for that. It’s hard. It’s just tricky.”
