What a week for Gaby Lopez from Mexico, her birthday, a hole in one, and her maiden LPGA Tour victory, the Blue Bay LPGA at Jian Lake Blue Bay Golf Course in China.
Triumph for Gaby
Gaby held her nerve with a final round +1 over par 73 to win the Blue Bay LPGA title with a -8 under par tournament total, and a one shot victory, becoming the first winner from Mexico since Lorena Ochoa;
“I mean, she’s been my inspiration my entire life, that’s why I’m actually a professional golfer.”
“I’ve played with Ariya and Sung Hyun before, probably this was the biggest challenge that I’ve ever faced on the golf course, being in the same group as world No. 1 and world No. 2.”
“At the same time this just tells me that I could be in the same level. I’m working, I’m practicing.”
World #1 Ariya Jutanugarn, Thailand, was second, a final round +1 over par 73 not what she was looking for, she finished with -7 under for the tournament;
“She did a great job last two days.”
Best round of the day, -6 under par 66 went to Celine Boutier of France, she finished in third place with that -6 under total.
