The first round of the Andalucía Costa del Sol Open de España Femenino got washed out with heavy rain falling, with three ladies tied at the top when play was suspended.  Michele Thomson, Scotland, Anne Van Dam of the Netherlands, both with completed rounds and Liz Young of England, who has only completed nine holes.Liz Young and caddie survey the wet scene / getty

Michele was happy to have finished her round;

“I like the golf course and I’ve got my brother here, so we are just having a fun week.”

“The course suits me and it’s a little bit wet out there, so I’m used to that, being from Scotland.”

Ann was playing for position, not hitting her driver too often;

 “I started with a bogey after I hit a poor shot from the middle of the fairway, but after that it was solid, a lot of fairways, greens and birdie chances.”

 “I don’t use my driver that much on this course. It’s all about position and hitting the right spots.”

There were only 45 ladies out of the field of 96 who had completed 18 holes when play was suspended.
