Last week in the Bahamas Ha Na scored an Albatross, and she has repeated the feat again to top the Coats Golf championship here in Florida. Her first round -7 under par 65 has given her a massive three shot advantage going into the second round tomorrow;
“No.7 is a very lucky number, so I feel very comfortable today because last year I had a second-place finish, so I really have more confidence on this golf course.”
“I like it’s an old golf course, and just thinking like on the fairway and the greens, there’s no problem because the weather is perfect and then everything is really good today.”
“Oh, it’s perfect, no bogeys. I like it. So today is like more, I don’t want to think about that it’s windy and don’t play for a score. I don’t see the scoreboards. I just keep going just simple, simple, simple.”
There is a group of six ladies tied in second place at 4-under par, including rookie In Gee Chun, Sei Young Kim, Kim Kaufman, Candie Kung, Jodi Ewart Shadoff and Kelly Tan, all with opening rounds of 68.
World #1 Lydia Ko had a more moderate start, carding -3 under par 69, but apart from trying to win this tournament Lydia has the Olympics, and the Zika epidemic on her mind;
“Everybody is so excited for the Olympics.”
“First of all we are more thinking about the people there, the people who are affected by it rather than what is going to happen with the Olympics.
“Obviously I’m just hoping that everybody there is safe. There are some things that we can’t control and that it is out of hands.”
“We still have eight months until the Olympics, it’s something we have got to keep looking at and monitor but for now, I guess that is all we can do.”
