“I played it just like how I played it last week.”

“This tournament is only three rounds and so I got a couple of days off for me.”

“And then also the weather was better than last week’s weather.”

Pornanong has gained some confidence from her performance last week;

“I feel like I got more confident after last week.”

“I tried to be playing my game and not put pressure on myself, so it makes me more relaxed on the course, with more good results.”

Lexi also took time out to recuperate from last weeks match;

Jin said she had learned from Jenny Song about how Dustin Johnson controlled his emotions;

“She told me Dustin hit so bad and he didn’t get angry, put clubs in the bag and just walk.”

“So, I tried like Dustin yesterday and today. I just tried no angry, no happy, just focus.”

“Lots of players thinks if there is a pin in the ball might hit the pin and come out.”

“I think it’s great to put the pin in because of it makes it easier for me to putt because it is a small target.”

 “I got lots of confidence for this year. Really good for third win in the States.”

Sharing second place at -21 under par are the Korda sisters from the USA, Jess, -8 under 64 today, Nelly with -6 under 66. They were joined on that score by Carlota Ciganda, Spain, -3 under 69 and Yu Liu from China, with a last round -2 under 70.

Carlota wanted to win in Arizona;

“I would’ve loved to win, always special here in Phoenix, but I couldn’t today.”

Jess was coming back from injury;

“Obviously, playing pain-free. It shows.”

Sister Nelly was cheesed off;

Daniel carded a first round -6 under par 66, to lead the Fiji International on the first day in Fiji, by one shot.

Daniel was happy with a good round of golf, and a red-hot putter

“I holed a really nice putt on the first hole for birdie, which got the momentum in the right direction.”

“I managed to birdie 11 as well. I made a couple of good up-and-downs through the back nine to save par a couple of times and then I birdied the 17th and had a bit of a run through the front nine; the first four holes.”

“There was a lot of good golf. I didn’t quite finish it off how I’d like to but I’m pretty happy.”

“The putter was pretty hot today so I rolled in a few putts from all over the place, which was nice.”

Ben Campbell, New Zealand, and Daniel Valente, Australia share second place at -5 under following their opening rounds of 67.

Ben had a solid round, saying -5 under was OK;

 “It was a solid round.”

“I thought anything under par today would be a great score. It wasn’t easy out there, that’s for sure.”

“So I’m really happy to get off to that kind of start. I think at most tournaments you’d take a five under first round anyway.”

“It was a really surprise for me, and then just my front nine is amazing, and then I think I got a good start from my first hole.”

“Then just my back nine is a little up-and-down, but I made a lot of putts.”

“I made a lot of good putts and then a good chip shot, too. Just I think hole-by-hole, simple.”

Mi Jung Hur, -6 under 66, and also from South Korea, finished tied in second place, at -5 under par, with longtime tournament leader Karrie Webb, from Australia, a sad last round +1 over par 73.

Karrie looked a certainty for the win after an Eagle at the par five 14th, then disaster struck, dropping three shots in two holes, the 17th was a nightmare;

“Very gutted, I was on a high, making the eagle, and then I had a very nice up-and-down on the next.”

“I bent down, picked my tee up, thought I hit a perfect drive there.”

“When I stood up, I went to tell Johnny that I absolutely knotted my three wood, exactly how I wanted and he said it kicked into the bunker.”

“I have no idea how it did that.”

“Obviously there were nerves there, but there was a good calmness there.”

“Well, my bunker shot, I said to Johnny, I don’t know if I need to hole this or get it up-and-down.”

“Imagine if you went for it and over played it and you only had to get it up-and-down.”

“I was trying to make it but also not being overly aggressive.”

“Obviously its long and thankfully they’ve put the tees forward because it’s playing soft, so it’s just planning your route around the course and taking advantage of the par fives where you can.”

“Other than that, though, it was a good day.”

Smiley has had good starts before;

“I’ve had starts like that in my career, so it’s kind of tough to keep it going as low as it felt like I was going. Definitely was on point with everything to start the round.”

“It was one of those days kind of got some good breaks and I also got some bad breaks, too.”

“I was able to kind of stay as levelheaded as possible and just try to bounce back and do as well as I can the next hole.”

Top placed player from Canada is McKenzie Hughes, he is in the next large group at -5 under par, and said he was happy with his start, and his putter;

“If you hit it in the fairway, you can be aggressive.”

“The few fairways I missed, I was just trying to make par and you have to be a little bit defensive. All in all it was a great day.”

“Probably could be a bit better, but I made a couple nice par putts, too. Overall, happy with my start.”

Karrie defied the blustery conditions at Dundonald Links to post a Ladies Scottish Open first round score of -7 under par 65, to lead by one shot;

“I sort of really hung in there through the front nine and made a nice birdie on nine to turn at one-under, and then just really started swinging at it well and hitting it quite close and had some good birdie chances and made the most of them,”

“I did start to hit some good shots, and I just kept telling myself to just keep going. “

“When you make a few birdies, not to just go into the mode of holding on.”

“I felt like I was swinging it pretty well and seeing the reads well and hitting solid putts. I was just tell myself just to keep going and make as many birdies as I could.”

“It’s never easy here, so I’m very pleased with the score.”

“I hit the ball in the areas I was trying to hit it in and made some putts as well. It was a great day. It’s never easy here and you can never take anything for granted.”

Third place, at -3 under par is shared between, Stacy Lewis, USA, Inbee Park and Sei Young Kim, South Korea, with Pornanong Phatlum, Thailand, and Lina Boqvist, Sweden.
